Louis Charles McClure
McClure’s style and images have been recognized as sign of photography that is of great historic and aesthetic value. His work provides a priceless record of
life from the close of the 19th century to the 1920’s. He studied with above mentioned photographer William Henry Jackson, and made a career of
photographing railroads and landscapes throughout Colorado, but his most interesting work documented the Denver of the 1890’s through the 1920’s.
McClure’s cityscape pictures of Denver are among the most accurate and artistic depictions of any American city. Whether photographing cowboys on the
range, miners, deep under ground or a mighty locomotive struggling to crest a high pass, McClure produced consistently superb photos displaying a sense of
artistry seldom surpassed.
