This early Cram map appears early in the mapmakers career, who was one of the first American map makers to start using Lithographic Coloring techniques. This large-scale map produced by Geographer to the Queen of Scotland, Alexander Keith Johnston was published in 1861 in his "Royal Atlas of Modern Geography." Johnston apprenticed to James Kirkwood & Sons, Engravers in 1820. In 1826, he partnered with his brother William in W. & A.K. Johnston. He Died July 9th, 1871 in Yorkshire.
This map of the World on Mercator's Projection shows countinents in outline color and indicates ocean currents in blue. The map also shows bays and rivers, many cities and ports, and small islands.
